A Human, Creative and Accessible Sewing School
-
Since 2011, La Fabrique éthique has been offering sewing classes in Montreal designed for those who want to learn to sew, develop their skills and create projects that reflect their style.
-
Our approach is based on three pillars: creativity, autonomy, and the joy of learning . Whether you want to adjust your clothes, sew custom-made garments, copy an existing garment, explore techniques like sewing stretch fabrics or swimwear, our courses are designed to support you every step of the way.
Our mission : to democratize sewing and allow everyone to create at their own pace and in their own image, while combining technique and pleasure!
-
We believe that everyone can learn how to sew, at their own pace. Whether in small groups or during private lessons, you'll benefit from flexible and attentive support in a welcoming environment. Our teachers, who are fashion professionals with a passion for teaching, know how to share their expertise with clarity, accuracy, and enthusiasm.
An Inspiring Place, Accessible Tools, and a Committed Vision
-
Our studios are nestled in the heart of the Grover building, a former textile factory that has become one of Montreal's major creative hubs. Bathed in natural light, our studios offer a comfortable and stimulating learning environment, designed to encourage concentration, creativity, and the joy of sewing.
-
Here you'll find modern sewing machines, a wide variety of tools, and a well-stocked library of books and sewing patterns to explore during classes. We also share DIY projects and tutorials to keep you entertained even when you're back home.
-
La Fabrique éthique was born from a deep desire : to equip people and encourage more responsible fashion. We believe in sewing with heart, with respect for people and the environment. This is why we are actively involved in the local community by offering workshops, conferences and projects that aim to support a sustainable fashion industry in Montreal. Acting locally already means having a global impact. Join the adventure!
Meet Your Teachers :)
-
Our team is composed of dynamic fashion industry professionals... but most importantly, we love teaching sewing! Our strength lies in our ability to synthesize complex skills into simple, clear, and practical solutions. Whether you're tailoring a pattern to your measurements, designing or copying a garment, using an overlocker, sewing stretch fabrics, or even creating a swimsuit, we're here to help.
-
And we do it with joy, whether in group or private lessons. Because for us, sharing our knowledge is more than just a job: it's a pleasure!
-
What motivates us every day? Making sewing accessible, enjoyable, and motivating for everyone. Whether you're just starting out or already have some experience, our role is to provide you with a solid foundation, support you through your technical challenges, and equip you so you can create with confidence.

Sonia Paradis
Sonia is the Founder and Director of La Fabrique Éthique. She opened her sewing school in 2011 and has been teaching ever since. Over the years, her project has allowed more than 6000 students to discover sewing or perfect their skills. Her goal in founding the school was to transfer her expertise and knowledge in order to promote greater autonomy, resilience, creativity, preservation of know-how, as well as a desire for greater social and environmental justice within our clothing habits. Hence the name: La Fabrique Éthique ;)
A graduate of Cégep Marie-Victorin in Fashion Design in 2001, she worked as a designer in various Montreal fashion companies. She then perfected her skills in Textile Arts creation at Concordia University.
Since 2011, she has been helping people create fashion that reflects their style and their values. She loves introducing people to the world of sewing and believes that luxury, in its deepest meaning, is having the ability to create projects imagined by oneself, to one's measurements. -
Natacha Casset
Natacha left France for Quebec in 2017, and thought that if she was going to change countries... she might as well change her life! Sewing was love at first sight, and she chose to trade her job in communications to return to school, first in Fashion Design at Collège Lasalle, then in Fashion and Custom-Made Clothing at the École des Métiers des Faubourgs. She subsequently worked for private clients, as well as in wedding dresses and currently for Studio Caribou.
For her, sewing is a true magical power that not only allows you to transform materials, but also to regain some control of our modern world. All you have to do is sit down at the machine to imagine and create! Whether it's clothing or accessories, she loves to encourage her students to take on small and large challenges, see them bring their ideas to life, and assist them in their proudest moments.
You can therefore expect to meet an attentive, positive, gentle, bright, and creative teacher. She will guide you through your projects, all with lightness and a touch of humor. -
Jayneeva Killa
Passionate about sewing since childhood, Jayneeva decided in 2018 to pursue a course in custom-made tailoring at the École des Métiers des Faubourgs. Since then, she has worked as a seamstress in various settings, but it was her involvement with the organization Mains utiles, where she supports women from different cultural communities through teaching sewing, that led her to join our team.
For her, sewing means lovingly crafting, repairing, learning to be self-sufficient, and developing a real sense of pride in seeing projects take shape. She believes that sewing allows you to take a break from everyday life while learning useful and rewarding skills.
Cheerful, patient, and attentive, Jayneeva enjoys encouraging her students to pursue their ideas. She provides a supportive environment where everyone can progress at their own pace and discover the joy of creating with their hands. -
tauts.
A 2014 Fashion Design graduate from LaSalle College, tauts.was working as an instructor at Fusion Jeunesse, where he was coaching high school students in creating a mini collection, from sketch to completion. Alongside his training in leatherwork at the Centre des Métiers du cuir de Montréal, he worked as a sampler for Yso and Duy, while developing his own sewing workshop, where he designs custom clothing and offers his expertise.
Highly committed, he has notably collaborated with Fashion Fights Cancer, a project aimed at helping patients in remission to create a fashion item, and has led online workshops accessible to all.
Passionate about cinema, tauts. considers sewing a language in its own right. Generous and attentive, he enjoys sharing technical skills while supporting each student in their approach and progress. You'll discover a dedicated, attentive teacher, always ready to help you go further. -
Shila Tabrizi
Shila is originally from Persia and taught French for a long time, first in Isfahan and then in Strasbourg, where she also completed a master's degree in linguistics and became an educational assistant for people with special needs.
Her keen interest in architecture, painting, and design naturally led her to couture. After graduating in Fashion Design from LaSalle College in 2019, she began her career at Atelier Rochefort, specializing in stage costumes for Cirque du Soleil and Disney, and then at Art of Where, a Montreal-based on-demand textile production company. She then worked as a designer's assistant at Life Horsens, and participated in various projects in the industry: creating technical files, hand sewing, quality control, and fitting garments for the Parliament of Quebec.
You'll meet a creative, cheerful, calm, and friendly teacher. Shila believes it is a true pleasure to teach sewing, and share her passion for beautiful techniques and the peace of mind that comes from creating your own projects.
